On September 23, 2025, leaders from across the energy sector gathered in Aurora, Colorado, for the first Empirical Energy Conference by CleanConnect.ai, an event built to accelerate the transition toward transparency, digital intelligence, and measurable carbon performance.

The day brought together executives, operators, traders, technologists, and investors from across the energy value chain. What emerged was a clear message:

“Energy is strongest when it runs on truth. The more we can see, measure, and verify, the more resilient this industry becomes.”

Verified Energy Trading

One of the strongest themes of the conference was the rise of empirical natural gas and the industry’s growing demand for verified, low-carbon energy products. The conversation reflected a meaningful shift: markets are moving toward transparent energy management, and organizations who cannot quantify their attributes risk falling behind those who can.

Scaling Clean Fuel Commercialization

Mark Smith moderated the day’s most forward-looking discussion, guiding conversations on transparency, verified attributes, and digital intelligence in global commodity markets.

Together with leaders from PureWest, ExxonMobil, and Gunvor, we talked about how energy markets are heading toward systems rooted in empirical data and operational clarity.

“Transparency isn’t a burden. It’s the new infrastructure for how energy will be priced, traded, and trusted.”

With deep expertise in global energy trade, Shane Foster of Gunvor Group explored how global trading strategies are adapting to real-time data availability, digital validation, and the growing importance of traceable attributes. He emphasized the structural changes taking place as empirical datasets influence pricing, risk management, and LNG/gas market positioning.

Together with Mike Gratzinger, the VP of Kimmeridge, we covered the emergence of Renewable Natural Gas (eRNG), the infrastructure required to support its growth, and the policy landscape enabling it. His talk highlighted how capital and innovation are reshaping the economics of clean fuels.

Future of Ops and Digital KPIs

Beau Hastings offered a forward-looking perspective on remote operations, computer vision, and digital monitoring, sharing how the operational intelligence landscape has evolved within one of the leading energy companies, Chevron, and what it means for the future of smart energy management.

We also discussed Chevron’s efforts to develop data-driven KPIs to improve visibility and decision-making across facilities. The session made clear that the next wave of operational excellence will be grounded in measurable performance metrics.

Next-era Technologies

Our team delivered some of the most anticipated sessions, showcasing the tools we use for making energy operations empirical.

New Layer of Operational Awareness

In our product unveiling session, we introduced the next-gen visual AI system – Minerva Sensor Fusion

Minerva integrates camera feeds, environmental sensors, and analytics to create real-time situational awareness across a facility. It represents a fundamental shift: moving from reactive operations to predictive, proactive energy management.

“Automation we develop isn’t about replacing people. It’s about empowering them with perfect visibility and faster decisions.”

We made the discussion even more comprehensive by presenting the new book by Dr. Mehdi Korjani, “Enterprise Generative AI Strategy for Energy Leaders”, detailing how organizations can evaluate, deploy, and scale generative AI responsibly. In his book, Dr. Korjani outlines how energy organizations can evaluate, deploy, and scale generative AI solutions, transforming operations and unlocking real competitive advantage.

Besides, CleanConnect.ai gave a glimpse into one of our most ambitious projects, led by former NASA scientist and CleanConnect.ai’s Director of Research & Instruments, Dr. Emily Wilson. She shared a groundbreaking approach to combustion monitoring, blending machine learning with core physics to maximize efficiency and cut emissions.
